Body Composition

Body composition refers to an estimate of the proportions of major components of a living body, such as water, nitrogen, sodium; more specifically, the proportion of lean body mass to fat. Because muscular tissue takes up less space in the body than fat tissue, body composition, as well as weight, determines leanness. Two people of same gender and body weight may look completely different from each other because they have a different body composition.

Body composition varies among individuals as a result of differences in body density and degree of obesity.
